Phew...a breather (and a CONTEST for you!)
09.04.2008
I cannot even express to you how chaotic life has been in the last month. However, let's do a little "Dave's World" entry, in which I will tell you that Dave has just begun his very first school district superintendency in Crestline, Ohio. If you are a friend, I apologize if I haven't had time to call and tell you. Consider yourself notified. That is just one piece of the maelstrom-crazy pie being served these days at casa aha. And, now, to the good stuff. I'm running a contest because I want to hear from all of you. (It would be really cool if I could insert a mirror here--so, work on that, techies, will you?) If you email me by September 16 at amy@aha4creative.com and tell me your idea for a flog entry, ask me to research something, ask me to begin my petition drive for 2-named tropical storms (wouldn't it have been nice if we'd had a last name like Gustav Flatus so we could call it Mr. Flatus?), whatever you want me to work on. I'd love a fun challenge, so the tougher the better, and you'll get a jazzed shout-out here on the flog. The best entries (and make sure you include your name and address so I can smail these to you) will get 2 tickets each for the Gem Beach Rock 'n' Roll Reunion on Catawba Island September 20 from Noon-8pm, to benefit the Ottawa County United Way. Watch for my dad--he'll be scooping Toft's yummy ice cream.
Send me your thoughts and, of course, your hate mail

Recently I have had a couple of you loyal floggers suggest ideas for me to discuss on here. One I received this week is to create an occasional blog called "Dave's World" about the times and trials of my husband. All that says to me is that you are all tired of reading about what I'm doing. Great--you're already bored. Well, I will work on something about "Dave's World" soon. I know you will be waiting with bated breath. For now, I have a new feature on this page to offer. You can now submit your own flog ideas or comments about the things I've already posted here. I will gladly share your comments with others, but will not divulge your name unless you tell me that I should. Feel free to send wacky stuff anonymously and I will share as much as I can.
When does school start?

The Eco Zoo
Cooking local, fresh corn and being a co-chair for the Appetite for the Arts event are just taking every single bit of my free time. Summer can end, school can start and I'll be okay with it--so shoot me for saying that. I have been trying to work on a photo gallery for my flog since the 4th of July and everything I need to photograph is still sitting in boxes in my dining room. Great. Anyway, today has been a particularly crazy day and I thought you all might need a little break with me. Last week I went with the whole family, grandparents and all,, to the Toledo Zoo, on a day that was much, much, much too hot and sunny. The zoo is a lovely place and the kids, when they weren't sweating and thirsty, really enjoyed it, so now I would take a little virtual visit to The Eco Zoo. Today I'm giving up my creative zoo cage, so come join me and the animals in The Eco Zoo.
Come one, come all

Appetite for the Arts
I would be remiss if I did not extend a heartfelt invitation to all of my fantastic and loyal floggers for the Port Clinton Arts Council event for which I am a proud co-chair. Appetite for the Arts is a free event to showcase the sights, sounds and tastes of the Port Clinton area culture. If you can plan to come, please make sure you find me and say hello and let me know you're a flog-fan! And please email me if you need further information, travel assistance, etc. We'd love to have you join us at a really cool venue this year in the big ol' warehouse of the Jet Express right on the river. Please come and support the arts! And come and purchase some really cool limited edition wine glasses I have donated with the Port Clinton Arts Council logo etched on the side. Hope to see you there!
Why does it always come back to vintage?

International Poster Gallery
As I begin the paperwork for my 2-name storm petition drive (let me know if you want to get on board), I took a little time to sit here today and browse through a Picasso Posters book I had purchased for my son. The posters are vibrant, dynamic and expressive and really got me thinking about movie, travel and theatre posters and how much fun they are to view. item3I know it always seems to come right back to these vintage designs, but even seeing today's Broadway logos, photos and posters shows the historical significance of designs from decades ago. I came across the International Poster Gallery during my research today and it is definitely on my list of places to visit the next time I make it to Boston. In fact, now I can't wait to get to Boston! I have been working on my own sort of collection/online gallery of something for a few weeks now, but it has become a slow and long process that I am fitting in between raindrops, unnatural humidity and 90 degree heat as I try to find a good outdoor location to photograph the items for the gallery. I promise I will have it up soon to share with all of you, since I must return the collection to its owner before long! Until then you can wait with bated breath...
Whoa, let’s not get carried away

Make Me Babies (Ick)
Okay, I just can’t even say anything about this other than that it is incredibly disturbing and creepy, not only from the perspective of a designer, but also from that of a mother. Leave this up on your screen for a while, watch the scrolling photos and, like me, you just might hope that civilization comes to an end soon. This person should be banned for life from Photoshop.
Norman Saksvig, eat your heart out

Finger Gymnastics
I had the nicest comment this week from a loyal flog reader who told me that I am (and I quote) “the creative version of George Carlin”. Apparently this flog tells it like it is, in all its usual hilarity of weird things that NormanSaksvighappen in life. Sweet! I am just happy I can provide a little creative respite from a hard-hearted, forlorn world. So, in honor of all that we call life, I have a little treat. It is Workout Friday. If you’ve had a long week pecking away at the typewriter, I mean keyboard, like I have, then this is a must for you. I am treating you to the very first lesson in a book titled 20th Century Typewriting, Fourth Edition, copyright 1942. Make sure you click on the link above to see the photos and read each drill, but here is the overview: “Brief daily practice of finger gymnastics will strengthen your finger muscles and increase the ease with which you type. Begin each typing period with this conditioning exercise. Choose two or more drills (from the seven listed) for this practice.” Make your fingers happy and do gymnastics in a tight-fitting suit.
