Color Hunter
Well, Donny has been removed from my desk. Apparently he is needed elsewhere to assist Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson. If you love something, set it free... I have been in need of some inspiration lately anyway--it is time to shake things up. I made it to the bookstore, where I spent some quality time in the fashion and design sections. I picked up a new book on color that is really helping get the ideas going. Something about color always does it for me. I thought it would be a good time to share another fun color site with all you sweet folks again. This one is really cool because you can upload your own photos and it will create a color palette to match the image. Try it, really, I dare you. Upload a photo of you in your Halloween costume. This is so fun just to do for kicks, or if you really wanted to make something to perfectly match a photo--a website, a card, wrapping paper, a dress, a necktie, a sofa whatever!
What is the IABPA?

Acronym Finder
As a news junkie, I am constantly bombarded by the alphabet soup of acronyms for things like government agencies and programs, NGOs, military terms and programs and all those strange words that computer techies use. This week brought it to light when I heard a new set of letters—AQI (Al-Qaeda Iraq). And now, thanks to innovations such as instant messaging and text messaging and the teens who have made them popular, hundreds of acronymns have grown beyond the scope of knowledge of anyone over the age of 25. The Acronym Finder and Acronym Attic allow you to search for anything you like and find out what those acronyms mean. I really enjoyed the “random terms” link because it allowed me to find the following:
TCHT (Texas Concealed Handgun Times)
FIST (Fully Integrated Systems Test)
ITYS (I Told You So)
CTOA (Chinese Tractor Owners Association)
CMDC (Certified Mold Detection Cannine)
MICROMORT (One-in-a-Million Chance of Death from an Environmental Hazard)
WCP (What a Cool Place)
AVEC (Autovector [does a single word really warrant an acronym?])
...Oh y es, and what is the IABPA, you ask? It is the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysis.
I dare you to use one of these in a text message to someone...just make sure you let me know their reaction!

Colour Lovers
So the last blog digressed a bit from the task at hand, I'll admit it. I just thought you all might want to know what I see while I'm working at my computer. This post will get back on track. I have had so many responses and such great feedback on the Colorstrology website I posted back in December that I thought I would follow-up on that theme. It is amazing how color affects us all, every single day, pretty much everywhere in our lives. It is also amazing to me how people have such strong reactions and emotions toward certain colors, while completely ignoring others. Colour Lovers has so much information it can be overwhelming, but is really great for getting ideas (if you're painting some rooms in your house or creating a new website) and getting a feeling for color combinations. The site has interesting colors, palette combinations and colorful patterns submitted by site users. Almost as interesting, I think, are the names they come up with for some of these colors and combinations. It is somewhat like looking through a virtual Crayola crayon box and finding some surprises. I just found "atomic tangerine", "granny smith apple" and "purple mountains' majesty" in my 96 box. Stay tuned for more color fun soon!

DonnyOsmondSometimes when I’m speaking with other creatives we talk about what inspires us. What exactly is it that sparks that creative fire inside so we can come up with fresh new ideas? I spend so much time consuming designs in all parts of my environment—online, magazines, newspapers, the daily mail, outdoors, shops, restaurants, the toy closet—just everywhere. And, you might ask, what really catches my attention? For me it is always something that makes me think about everyday life & objects in new, unique, surprising and fresh ways. Things that take a slightly out-of-the-ordinary approach to old ideas, concepts and products always catch my eye. Flashy doesn’t always do it for me—usually that’s just a cover for something sub-par or the compensation for lack of meaningful content. And I am always fascinated by what OTHER consumers are drawn to. What makes you like something when you see it among the clutter? So, today, instead of sending you to a website, I will share a photo of something I have just added to my “line of sight” right here on my desk. You might find it slightly disturbing, but please try not to judge. Amazingly, it fits all my categories for inspiration, if not consternation. The recent acquisition of the one-shoed Donny Osmond doll, circa mid-1970s, has me thinking things like….why did my husband have this as a child? Why didn’t he like Marie enough to have her doll? Who decided purple satin and pink mesh was a good idea for a man’s stage costume—and because of this costume can he still be called an “action figure”? All very interesting questions (that prompt more questions), but seeing his beaming smile makes me let out a little giggle each time I look over his way.
