I can't imagine that anyone would want to read about how my son forgot his Spiderman lunchbox this morning blah, blah, blah--my life isn't exciting enough for a blog, but from time to time I do find myself wanting to share something with all my loyal online readers. For that I will use this "flog" page, or my faux blog as I had been calling it before I came up with this ridiculous new name. (Flog, incidentally, also means "promote or talk about something repetitively or at excessive length." That definition seems somehow fitting.)
- I can't tell you exactly how frequently I will post new things here, but whenever I come across something that I think might interest you in a creative, inspirational way (or something that makes me say "ooooh" or laugh hysterically) I will post it here. Please feel free to drop me an email if you have something creative you would like to share and I'll post it for everyone.
- Emergency....341
- 11.10.2008
- Last week, a client came to me with a super-rush job, most likely thinking that there was no way I was going to be able to get something pulled together in time for printing and mailing. Let me just say, in this design world, that just never happens. You do get the sarcasm, correct? Ha! In actuality, tight deadlines and the pressure cooker make things fun. Or maybe I'm just crazy... And thanks to that client deciding that I should add "Miracle Worker" to my list of credentials, it got me thinking. (Oh, no, not again, you say!) So I was watching cable news the other day and they had on some "expert" on how to work your resumé magic in a down economy, and it made me wonder about something I've thought about before. Will there ever be a design emergency for which someone will need to call on me to save the day by using my knowledge of typefaces, bleeds, spot colors and PNG transparency? I know, I know, it will never happen, but I can always dream. There are smart folks in Ohio (who are not necessarily plumbers) who are happy to help educate the public through mass media outlets (hint, hint, call me at 419.341.1117). For now, I will have to revel in the glow of Miracle Worker status.
- Random musings from a creative who needs to lay off the POTUS pipe

- For some reason, lately I have been contemplative about things in life that I really respect and enjoy. Perhaps it’s my latest foray into journalism-of-sorts, back into the swing of thinking about what a tough job that is these days. Or maybe it is just taking a little time to breathe from the chaos of life, but I thought I’d share a few things that I really have learned about myself and what makes me feel inspired and happy. I will share a few…
- I love everything about coffee—the sound of grinding the beans, the aroma, the steam, the flavor—NO sugar please. The stronger, the better.
- There is something very endearing about a brown, upholstered sofa on a front porch. Maybe that’s just some nostalgia for Southeastern Ohio.
- Convertibles are cool (but the sunroof in my new vehicle is a close second).
- The chance to be creative every day makes me one of the luckiest people in the world.
- I could live without technology, but what fun would that be?
- I miss spending time at the library. Remember that place we had to go to find things out before Google?
- Wind turbines are growing on me. Many years ago, on a road trip that took me somewhere through the Great Plains, a farm field of wind turbines at sunrise looked pretty creepy. I’m over that now.
- I love paisley, plaid and argyle, but don't really like wearing them.
- Will we ever have a president who can pronounce the word nuclear? (Well, yes you caught me, that really wasn't something I like. I can't stand the word NU-CU-LER.)
- I feel so lucky to have the wonderful, supportive and loving parents I have.
- I really admire people who build things, tangible things. Not abstract “things” like web sites, brochures and papers like I "build."
- Did I mention that I like stationery? Maybe I did.
- I don’t know what I will do if POTUS08 and Thom Mozloom go off the airwaves of XM.
- I really like that song “I’m Free” by Kenny Loggins from the movie “Footloose.” (Okay, I like the movie, too, so shoot me.)
- Those are my thoughts….not actually endorsements of any movies, cars or furniture.
- Creatives are so cool

I always love it when I can share another creative individual with all of you loyal readers. Today's share is a FANTASTIC musician I went to college with, Jason Farnham. His music is magical, beautiful and masterful all in one. I am so impressed with his talent and the range of music and sound he creates. He is from this sweet old state of Ohio, but has moved on to the land of entertainment and glitz and glamour for bigger and better things. From time to time he returns to the motherland and was here this summer for his latest CD release party. Unfortunately, I had to miss that and will not be able to attend this next Ohio adventure, but wanted to make sure I share it with all of you. He is having a concert on Saturday, October 4 for the purpose of filming a promotional video and photographing his performance. This is free! I hope some of you will attend and will send me an update of the evening. Please visit Jason's web site at www.jasonfarnham.com and check out his music. If you attend, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
- Congrats!

- Congratulations to all the winners of the tickets for the Gem Beach Rock 'n' Roll Reunion. I hope everyone enjoyed the gorgeous day and rockin' tunes at Gem Beach. It was a wonderful day and, if I had to guess based upon drained beer kegs, the turnout was incredible.
- Phew...a breather (and a CONTEST for you!)

- I cannot even express to you how chaotic life has been in the last month. However, let's do a little "Dave's World" entry, in which I will tell you that Dave has just begun his very first school district superintendency in Crestline, Ohio. If you are a friend, I apologize if I haven't had time to call and tell you. Consider yourself notified. That is just one piece of the maelstrom-crazy pie being served these days at casa aha. And, now, to the good stuff. I'm running a contest because I want to hear from all of you. (It would be really cool if I could insert a mirror here--so, work on that, techies, will you?) If you email me by September 16 at amy@aha4creative.com and tell me your idea for a flog entry, ask me to research something, ask me to begin my petition drive for 2-named tropical storms (wouldn't it have been nice if we'd had a last name like Gustav Flatus so we could call it Mr. Flatus?), whatever you want me to work on. I'd love a fun challenge, so the tougher the better, and you'll get a jazzed shout-out here on the flog. The best entries (and make sure you include your name and address so I can smail these to you) will get 2 tickets each for the Gem Beach Rock 'n' Roll Reunion on Catawba Island September 20 from Noon-8pm, to benefit the Ottawa County United Way. Watch for my dad--he'll be scooping Toft's yummy ice cream.

- Recently I have had a couple of you loyal floggers suggest ideas for me to discuss on here. One I received this week is to create an occasional blog called "Dave's World" about the times and trials of my husband. All that says to me is that you are all tired of reading about what I'm doing. Great--you're already bored. Well, I will work on something about "Dave's World" soon. I know you will be waiting with bated breath. For now, I have a new feature on this page to offer. You can now submit your own flog ideas or comments about the things I've already posted here. I will gladly share your comments with others, but will not divulge your name unless you tell me that I should. Feel free to send wacky stuff anonymously and I will share as much as I can.

- The Eco Zoo
- Cooking local, fresh corn and being a co-chair for the Appetite for the Arts event are just taking every single bit of my free time. Summer can end, school can start and I'll be okay with it--so shoot me for saying that. I have been trying to work on a photo gallery for my flog since the 4th of July and everything I need to photograph is still sitting in boxes in my dining room. Great. Anyway, today has been a particularly crazy day and I thought you all might need a little break with me. Last week I went with the whole family, grandparents and all,, to the Toledo Zoo, on a day that was much, much, much too hot and sunny. The zoo is a lovely place and the kids, when they weren't sweating and thirsty, really enjoyed it, so now I would take a little virtual visit to The Eco Zoo. Today I'm giving up my creative zoo cage, so come join me and the animals in The Eco Zoo.
